National electronic cycle journey planner project underway!
Cycling England is working in partnership with Transport Direct and the Department for Transport to build a national electronic cycle journey planner. The planner will allow novice and experienced cyclists alike to plan cycle friendly journeys tailored to their level of experience.
The project has been a while in development - over the last few years we have worked hard to prove the feasibility of delivering of such a planner on a national scale, and developed the prototypes for a working model. Transport Direct will build the planner, whilst Cycling England is funding the initial collection of data. The national planner will be available online, but will also be available on a local basis for Local authorities to incorporate into their own website services.
Cycling England is now seeking to identify our first priority areas for data collection, working with those authorities who would like to be the first to have detailed journey planning and maps for their area. Cycling England is already in discussions with its Cycling Demonstration Towns but is seeking other first areas for data collection.
