Cycling should form an integral part of any Travel Plan from the outset. As Travel Plans are widely used, and are generally a requirement for any major new development, they present a key opportunity for the promotion of cycling.
This section covers the encouragement of cycling through travel planning and other partnership programmes. Such initiatives are often focused towards specific groups or sites, including schools, employers, health, police, tourism, NGOs.
Council Travel Plan, Leicester City Council
As part of the preparation of a travel plan for the Council, Leicester requested Cycling England to recommend any information sheets, advice, guides, etc that could be downloaded from an internal council website, or placed in information packs, leaflet holders, etc for people interested in cycling.
Promoting Cycling through Travel Planning Initiatives, Luton BC
Luton Borough Council has a strong commitment to cycle promotion through travel planning, and has identified a range of individuals, groups and organisations that are working on initiatives to encourage more cycling for everyday journeys. At the moment many of these initiatives are being carried out in semi-isolation and there is a need for an overall coordinated strategy. This report reviews the existing initiatives and subsequent recommendations.
