In partnership with four local authorities, Life Cycle UK runs ‘Take a Stand’. The scheme offers two free Sheffield cycle parking stands to small businesses, not for profit organisations and community groups. What is your job or other main activity that involves cycling?
As part of my job at Birmingham International Airport I try to encourage staff to cycle to work, but I am also a Sustrans Volunteer Ranger, co-ordinate a local community initiative, “Cyclesolihull” to encourage more cycling in the local area, and provide National Standard Cycle Training under the name Purr-fect Pedalling. What is your job or other main activity that involves cycling?
I’m the Managing Director of Cycling Solutions, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that promotes cycling mainly through the provision of Bikeability cycle training.
How long have you done that?

What is your job or other main activity that involves cycling?
I do research on traffic and transport psychology and my main interest is in issues surrounding cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. I look at factors affecting their safety as well as how and why people choose to travel in these ways.
How long have you done that?

I am currently an elected City Councillor and as part of my role on the council’s cabinet I am on the board of Lancaster district’s Cycling Demonstration Town initiative.

The Newland Avenue Mixed Priority Route Project in Hull is part of a national initiative to improve road safety on busy urban shopping streets. The scheme is one of ten DfT best practice demonstration projects and was designed to provide a safer and more attractive street environment with more space for pedestrians.
